For all of those who thought that there was nothing to do in Pittsburgh, you have officially been proven incorrect. Here is another list of some of the events in happening in Pittsburgh this summer (June- August). We also added some ongoing favorites and staff recommendations for you to check out. Enjoy!
June 2015
Free-
- Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival– A Pittsburgh Tradition Since 1960 (It always rains during the arts festival. Bring your umbrella)
- Who doesn’t love a free concert? This was a recommendation from Wes, so you know its good. Free concerts all summer at South Park Amphitheater and Hartwood Acres.
- Pittsburgh Pride Fest– A day-long Pride March and Festival during Pride Week
- Bach Beethoven and Brunch Classical Music Series– hosted at various parks city-wide June-August
- Cinema in the Park (I mentioned this last time but it actually starts in June)- Movies hosted in local parks all over the city.
- Rodef Shalom Biblical Botanical Garden– the largest biblical botanical garden in North America. Includes a waterfall, a desert and a stream.
- Summer Reading Extravaganza @ CLP Main– Every Hero Has A Story. What’s Yours?
- WYEP Summer Music Festival– Free and conveniently located five minutes from the iSchool.
- Yoga in the Square– free community yoga classes Sunday mornings from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. from May 31 – September 27 in Market Square.
- Big City Line Dance– Come and get moving at the 2015 Big City Line Dance, a Take a Healthy Step Initiative of the Dignity & Respect Campaign of Greater Pittsburgh.
- SouthSide Works Summer Entertainment Series
- Trax Farm Strawberry Festival

- More music- Jam on Walnut calls itself the “Best Block Party” in the city.
- Slide the City– 1000 ft Slip n Slide
- Downtown 5K Tour– Ever wanted to workout and see the sights Downtown? Now you can!
- Authors on Tour- Celeste Ng- AUTHORS ON TOUR is a new collaborative initiative of Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures and Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh to present authors who are on a national publicity tour, either with a new hardback or recent paperback book release, to Pittsburgh audiences.
- Another Trax Farms event the Summer Wine Festival
- Urban Garden Party hosted by the Mattress Factory
- PA Microbrewers Fest 2015 @ Penn Brewery
- Walk Now for Autism Speaks– Pittsburgh
- One Whirl Yoga Fest at Point State Park.

July 2015
Free-
- Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix– International Car Show at Schenley Park
- Three Rivers Regatta– Another Pittsburgh tradition to celebrate the fourth of July, and it isn’t a Pittsburgh tradition if there aren’t fireworks.
- Grab a friend and a fishing pole. Fish for free for 1 day only (even if you don’t have a license)
- Stephen Foster Music and Heritage Festival– Why should you go? Because who doesn’t want to go to a music festival in a graveyard? If you’re not sold yet the website states “period costumes are not required, but they are encouraged.” (Not sure if this is free or not. Call first)
- Polish Hill Arts Festival–The festival includes artists and craft vendors, live music, food, and art and craft activities.
Fee-
- 21st Annual Pittsburgh Blues Festival
- Inked After Dark @ Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History.
- Not free, but really inexpensive and worth while, the Washington County Fair
- Anthrocon aka the furries- “world’s largest convention for those fascinated with anthropomorphics, which are humanlike animal characters such as have fascinated mankind since the dawn of human imagination. We are a collection of artists, animators, writers, costumers, puppeteers, and just everyday fans who enjoy cartoon animals and their kin.” (Free to enjoy, but pay to attend)
- 160th Big Butler Fair– Food, Animals. Games, Concerts ,and fireworks (worth the drive and the $8 admission price)
August 2015
- Bloomfield Little Italy Days– Italian food, games, dancing, and music.
- Lawrence County Fair– craft, clothing, food, and more music
- Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival
- Three Rivers Storytelling Festival a two-day storytelling festival that features national and regional tellers, workshops, master storytelling classes, Liars’ Contests, Ghost Stories, and Youth Concerts.
Ongoing
- Take a stroll down to the North Shore. Check out the river, PNC Park and Heinz Field.
- Farmers’ Market season is upon us. Find a market near you!
- More Pittsburgh classics, Kennywood and Sandcastle.
- Do you love to bike? Have you always wanted to bike to Washington D.C.? Now you can on the Great Allegheny Passage
- Trader Jack’s Flea Market– Saturdays and Sundays. Possibly year round
- Rogers Community Open Air Market ” the Largest open air market in the tri-state area”
- Rossi’s Popup Market in North Versailles- Fresh fruit, art, and crafts Saturday and Sunday
- Her Turn- Showcasing work by 12 respected female artists working in the male-dominated world of woodturning, Her Turn provides an eye-opening look into the world of functional and sculptural art created on the lathe.
- Little Nemo: Dream another Dream @ the ToonSuem- The exhibit displays the original work by dozens of renowned contemporary artists interpreting McCay’s fantastical comic strip masterpiece, which began running in the New York Herald in 1905
- Old Allegheny County Jail Museum Self Guided Tour– Open almost every Monday all summer (check the schedule)
- Pittsburgh Banjo Club in the Elks Lodge
- Track down a food truck
- Instead of complaining about the new bike lanes, use them. Build your own bike and give back with Free Ride.
- If you aren’t up for building a bike why not try the new bike share system in Oakland?
- Another Wes recommendation. Wes is the manager of Student Services @ the iSchool if you didn’t know. The Bayernhof Museum a 19, 000 square foot museum with hidden doors and secret passage ways!
